Mature Athlete Program

For over two decades plus, Dr Carfagno has managed athletes and their medical care.  The aging athlete is a very popular patient profile here.  It started back in Cleveland Clinic Foundation during his residency and fellowship where in 1997 he was lecturing on Supplements in fellowship in front of the Orthopedic Department and a question posed by the Chair of Orthopedics, Dr John Bergfeld asked him what about Testosterone in the older athlete?  At that time there was scan literature on supporting that, but it made sense to help especially muscle hypertrophy in the aging athlete, especially after an orthopedic procedure like a total joint replacement.  As the literature came out and supported the medical use in patients who were diagnosed with Primary Hypogonadism, “Low T”, it became more acceptable.  Once a diagnosis is made, which Is based on the Endocrine Society Guidelines on Primary Hypogonadism, 2010, then patients are counselled on the management and the risks/benefits of Low T.  Dr Carfagno’s background as an exercise physiologist/trainer enhances the approach and creates the most comprehensive Aging athlete evaluation. He and his team have evolved to create the ultimate in assessing andmanaging the aging athlete.  Biometric data from all systems of the body which decline with aging are assessed and managed.
