Squat Series: Kettlebell Goblet Squat

Squats are one of the best movements in any resistance training program because they target a powerhouse combination of muscles.  The prime movers are the glutes, quadriceps, and calves as they act on the hip, knees and ankles.  In strength and conditioning circles this is reffered to the triple extension.  Changing the placement of the load alters the center of gravity and therefore changes the biomechanics slightly.

Kettlebell goblet squats are a great addition to your full body workout because they have added benifits compared to traditional squats.  By holding the kettlebell in the front rack position it makes it easier to get better depth in the squat while keeping the chest upright, translating to better mobility.  Another benefit of positioning the load in the goblet squat is that it causes an isometric load in the shoulders, arms, and abdominal muscles.  This provides great bang for your buck in terms of exercise selection, especially for full body workouts.

This is a great piece to add to your training, but there is no one size fits all exercise.  We use a hollistic approach with our exercise consults which are designed to prescribe a customized program based on your goals, abilities and other health considerations.  Call us today to get your appointment scheduled!
